This is what the Neatherlins say about their operation:
* We began Neatherlin Horse Rescue in 2010 when we took on some horses that a friend could no longer keep. We placed them and by word of mouth were offered some other horses. Since then several local people have placed horses with us, and we have also taken on horses that we have seen advertised.
Our Placement Process
**We are very careful in our placement process. When we take a horse in, we have our vet examine him or her and update all vaccines. When the horse is ready to be placed, we interview prospective adopters and visit their property before placing a horse. We require a No Auction/No Slaughter agreement, and we request that adopters contact us if they find themselves unable to keep the horses we have placed. We follow up on the placement monthly for two years to make sure it is a good match.
This is what I have observed since September of 2014
* They seem to troll Craigslist, RescueMe.org and similar pages seeking horses they can pick up free and resell. They also belong to these Facebook groups:
Horses (plus Lease, Trade or Priced Under $750 and belong to these pages:
Horses for Sale In Texas
FREE Horse Tack & Paid horse training in Texas
Horses For Sale In Texas
The Grullo and Roan Zone~Buyers Exclusively!
Tack Hoarders!!!!
Everything Horses
Horses for FREE - $400 N.La/central La./E.Tx/S.Ark
They seem to actively seek horses to take on even when they have no feed or hay nor any way of obtaining any.
** No paperwork exchanged hands in the three placements I have first-hand knowledge of until my farrier demanded paperwork for the horse that was "placed" with him for $900.
